Lolita Blog Carnival: First impressions of Lolita VS Now

Lolita has been a part of my live for a very long time. That's why I wanted to take part in this weeks carnival  which is about what your first impressions where of lolita vs now.

It's quite funny to see how things change over time especially your vision about something.
When I first came across lolita I didn't understand it at all, I was around 17 years old and into gothic/strega/skate fashion. With the black clothes, spikes and all the shizzle.
Why would someone dress like a clown with pigtails poofy dresses and socks with lace on top?!

Yes, that was one of my first thoughts about lolita fashion back in 2005. Scary right? Especially when you look at my style these days it changed completely.
The day that my friend posted the pictures to share her new intrest on the forum we got into a huge argument about it. Since I couldn't understand why she would change her gothic style for this but days passed by. Together with a change of mind at my end.

Now that I look back at the first time I saw lolita I don't think I would change a thing about my thoughts. Since it took about a year to get used to it. It was very strange for me to be honest, I come from a small town in Belgium where everyone dresses the same basically with a pair of jeans and a sweater. Even I wore my gothic clothes to school as much as I could.

Over time my thoughts changed and I bought my first lolita dress at a gothic and fantasy fair in Holland. It was a year later and at that time I lived in Holland so things where a lot easier to dress a certain way. It was there that I really learned that it was alright to dress differently. My first lolita dress was from a small indiebrand at that time called Gojira, I fell in love with one of their dresses. But I was a gothic and the dress was candy cotton pink. How in the world would I ever wear pink, this isn't my color at all. And I was way to chubby for lolita fashion at that time.  Time passed by and I walked by the stand for many many times that day. Eventually my husband pushed me to try it on just to see if I liked it that much. I knew it was going to end like a big mess but it didn't.

At this very moment lolita fashion is my life and I can't imagine how by live would look like if it wasn't a part of me. Both my personality and lifestyle changed so much in the past 10 years and I'm very grateful for it. Lolita brought me the light that I needed so much and I'm really thankful for it.
It's amazing how a fashion style can change so much about yourself and how you live your life. The people that I've met and all the amazing meetings small and big I love them all and they really help me to get through a year of work, school and internships.

So I just want to say thank you all for being a part of this amazing life that I'm living right now. If I didn't had the discussion with my friend back in 2005 who knows what I was doing with my live right now?
